The Challenge

In classical ultrasound diagnostics the diagnostician makes his diagnosis with the help of empirical values, including as well square measures and/or distance measures. Proceeding in this way leaves a large part of the image information unconsidered which could objectively be evaluated.

In particular the grey-value distribution in a "region of interest" could permit to qualify and quantify functional connections between the grey-level distribution and the tissue physiology.

In this special case the objective was the analysis of the secretion performance (Progesteron) of the corpora lutea of a sheep (corpora lutea on the ovary) on the basis of their grey-value distribution.

With the help of the image processing software BFV 1.2 the user can interactively determine and mark a scope of medical objects. For the objects marked in this way attributes like e.g. dimension, surface area and form factor are registered quantitatively and stored in a database.

They can within the marked object compute the grey-value histogram for another "region of interest" and indicate it to the user graphically. At the same time different statistical parameters are determined from the grey values, indicated and stored with the object. The database determined in this way can later on be subjected to another analysis.
